Achtung! This course in an English version of the same course held in Italian in 2015/2016, hopefully better organized and improved by the experience gained in the previous year. This course is aimed to be a very basic introduction to calculus of variations for scalar integral functionals, with as less prerequisites as possible. No advanced topic (such as multiple integrals, vectorial problems, geometric problems, or bounded variation functions) is covered.
